Teaching Philosophy:	I believe that music plays an huge part in the life of each student’s education as well as their own self worth. As a music educator, I believe that it is my duty to be prepared with quality instruction to help each student realize his or her own individual potential. Every student can benefit by learning music as it enriches our quality of life! Music Research has shown that the study of music encourages wholesome public interaction, correlates positively with increased math and science aptitudes, verbal memory, and SAT scores, guides and promotes discipline and perseverance. I strongly believe music, as well as other types of art, are necessary if we expect our students to be great thinkers and achievers. Through my love of music, I hope to inspire students and help them realize what a joy it can bring to their every day lives…

Teaching Philosophy:	Each student should be coached according to their goals, interests, and personal skill level. I love coaching auditions and have had students in CU Honor Ban, All-Satae Orchestra and Band, area youth orchestras. IMy students have also won various solo competitions. However, I enjoy equally helping a beginner to play their first notes or a casual adult player just enjoy their limited time with the flute playing whatever makes their day.

Additional Info:	The major portion of my professional life is now centered in music management, but I am serious about continuing to give students my very best and consistent efforts as a coach.

Teaching Philosophy:	Learning to sing is a joy and should be fun. I encourage my students to sing every week whether in a church, coral group or with friends. Take the time to warm up and treat your voice well. No screaming, smoking or belting.

Practicing to sing properly requires dedication to your craft. Practice makes perfect and perfect practice makes a better singer. Find an appropriate rehearsal space in which to practice.Make sure you have good lighting and a full-length mirror. Utilize a CD player, a properly maintained and in-tune keyboard or piano to aide in your singing time. Schedule time to sing just like you would in a sport. Eat right, get plenty of sleep, exercise and avoid alcohol. Ride a bike or run to build up your wind.

Singing in a performance will drain you of all your energy so you must prepare to go the distance. Train like you would as if you will perform the following week. Know your music, study and be ready to show the world your talent.

Name:	Levi Comstock
Email:	levi.comstock@gmail.com
Location:	Cambridge, MA

Areas of Study Offered:	I teach viola, violin, and fiddle lessons to students of all ages. Students develop performance skills and a repertoire of songs in classical, bluegrass, and jazz styles based on interest. In addition, students become musically literate, learning to read, write, compose, and improvise music with ease.

Musical Education/Teaching Experience:	BM Music Education, St. Olaf College Suzuki Book 1 training at Hartt Conservatory 6 years of private studio teaching 2 years of public school orchestra teaching in Minneapolis public schools 3 summers of teaching lessons, chamber music, and orchestra in various camp settings including the MacPhail Center for the Arts, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Upper Midwest Chamber Music Festival

Teaching Philosophy:	I believe that everyone is musical who can talk, clap, or walk. I have taught students with seemingly insurmountable physical and circumstantial challenges who created meaningful musical experiences for themselves and audiences, and they inspire me to be a more patient and creative teacher. I design flexible and differentiated lessons that allow students at different levels to create personal goals in their playing, and I work individually with students to help them meet their goals.

I believe that music is an essential part of a child’s development. It is a physical and mental discipline that builds concentration, coordination, organization, quick thinking, and attention to detail. It speaks to and from the heart in a unique and powerful way. It is an integral part of culture, and by studying and performing different styles of music we learn about ourselves and our neighbors throughout the world. I believe that in every classroom learning is both direct and ancillary. Children learn what is in my lesson plan objectives through activities that let them discover a prescribed concept. They also soak in many lessons from the classroom environment about music and about life. I am conscious of this in creating an atmosphere of respect, acceptance, and high expectations.

I believe that my effectiveness as a teacher is proportional to my openness as a learner. I seek professional advice from colleagues, I study and practice my own musical craft, and I try to put myself daily onto the other side of the podium to ask “what are my students hearing, and what is this like for them?” I also refer back to my training in pedagogy, asking, “How would Paul Rolland teach this? What would Suzuki tell this student?” I believe that music has the power to bring hope to a hurting world, carry people through difficult times, and bring people together toward a common goal. I teach because I want to be there when these things happen.

Musical Education/Teaching Experience:	Stephen has been teaching and performing since obtaining his Bachelor of Music in Music Education Degree from the University of Saskatchewan Music Department in 1997. His teaching experience includes the public school system, The Conservatory at Mount Royal University (Calgary AB), masterclasses, festival adjudications and chamber music coaching. Currently, he teaches weekly lessons at his home studio to students studying classical, fingerstyle and popular guitar music. Past private studio locations have been in Saskatoon SK, Lloydminster AB, Calgary AB, and now Dollard-des-Ormeaux, in the West Island of Montreal QC. The teaching studio space welcomes people of all ages and levels to learn, rehearse, express, record and grow both musically and aesthetically.

Teaching Philosophy:	Similar to oral traditions in “non-western European” cultures, we learn best when we internalize by truly hearing music in a way that aesthetically moves and tranforms us. In order to do this when playing an instrument, we have to overcome various oddities involved with holding, gripping and maneuvering (within) the instrument. I believe this is best done with carefully chosen supplementary studies and excercises, none of which overtake the musical importance of the pieces being studied, but which facilitate in reaching the goal of comfortable artistic expression sooner than later. We strive, through some repetition and hard work, to be able to play beautiful music as soon as possible (please contact for a full discussion of this philosophy in detail – thank you kindly).
