Music Lessons Directory Submissions Closed

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Submissions for this site have now been closed and will remain so as far as we can see. All submissions should be directed to a new site that we are in partnership with, Services Local, that should better be able to serve as a directory for private music lessons teachers, among other things.

In effect, this site has been engulfed by our new one so please consider submitting your information there to get the same result as you would here. People who have had their information posted here will have to write new submissions, not just resubmit the ones from here. Sorry about that!

How Should Art Be Taught

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

An interesting debate is whether teachers of music and art in general should focus on just the technical aspects of whatever medium they are teaching, or give their students lessons on the larger philosophy that should be behind art. In other words, whether the teachers should try to influence the subjects that their students take up, rather than just their craft in addressing those subjects.

People who support the hands off and objective method of focusing on technique have their allies and adversaries, including the people from this site on modern art critique. The benefit of their method is that the student gets to develop their own thoughts on what to portray in their art.

Music Composers Site

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Just an update to let everyone know that there is a site out there like this one but for music composers, and we know that a lot of music teachers on this site may also be composers.

The site features a list of composers as well as some job openings from people looking for them. If you are a teacher on this site who also may be in the business of producing music for film, tv, or video games, think about submitting your information to that site as well.

Site for Posting Free Use Music

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

This is an update to let everyone know about a sister site to this one that offers a place to post any completed recordings you may have. The deal with this site for legal free use music is that anything posted can be used in media projects such as film and animation so long as they credit you.

Its purpose is to give filmmakers some options for free music that they don’t have to worry about legal consequences with and don’t have to run down permission for. At the same time, it should provide the makers of the music with some free exposure that could turn out to be significant.

New Custom Post Titles for Music Teachers and Schools

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Just a quick announcement that from now on here at the Music Lessons Directory you will be able to specify how you want the title of your post to appear on the site. The only requirement is that it have your name or the name of your music school included, and we will add that in if you forget. Also, it has to be something relatively short, and we may edit it down for you if what you submit is too long.
